How do we raise funds?

Text Box: “I love Hafiz’ poems. I always read them. They change and inspire me. Music talks to the innermost feelings of a human being. Poetry and music have influence on every one.”

Ahmad Shah Massoud

All participants in this initiative are volunteers and work free of charge. We try to minimise all expenditure related to this initiative so that close to 100% of the funds received can go into the project.
In the coming year 2009 / 2010 we want to organise fundraising events in the following countries: Afghanistan, Germany, France, Canada and Japan. The goal is to raise no less than 2 mil US$. Approximately 500,000 of that will be spent on building and equipment. As far as the land in each location is concerned we are looking for generous benefactors. Either a new facility will be constructed or an existing building each will be renovated and tailor-made for the purposes of the Ahmad Shah Massoud Library Centre. The balance of the funds raised will remain in an endowment fund in an effort to run the Centre out of the otherwise generated funds.

You can contribute as follows:

• Fundraisers: we will be organising fundraisers in the following countries: Afghanistan, France, Germany, Canada and Japan. Event dates and many more details regarding the events will be posted on this site. We encourage everybody to attend these fundraisers and contribute generously.
If you are unable to attend any of these fundraisers, we encourage you to organise one within your reach and means among like-minded friends. We will be able to supply you with tips on how to pull off a fundraiser with no costs to the organiser. Even if you raise only a few thousand dollars - all contributions are welcome!

• Direct donations:
Cash donations: Funds should be donated via our secure PayPal Donate service or directly via the following bank connection:

All funds collected – both via bank transfer and PayPal – are kept in this bank account until such time that they will be spent on the project. Further bank details and verifications can be provided upon request. Each donation will be confirmed by an official receipt.

Books: as the centre-piece of the institution, the Library wants to feature a wide variety of quality books, magazines and multi-media items. Your generous donations of such items will be much appreciated. Most materials should be in Farsi, Dari and Pashto. We do understand that this might be possible only to a limited extend, so English materials are equally welcome, but French and Arabic should be donated only in limited numbers.

In kind donations: the Centre requires furniture and equipments of various kinds. If you are able to donate any of the items listed here, please contact us and ship them to the following address:

Charity Challenge - Across the Divide

Don’t know yet where to take your next holidays? Then Across the Divide is a great option to do something truly different this time around.

Here is how it works:
Sign up for one of the travel events on Across the Divide's website.
Subsequently Across the Divide will furnish you with ideas and suggestions on how to raise funds.
You declare to donate all raised funds which exceed your travel costs to Massoud Library
Engage in fundraising activities of your choice and collect as much money as you can.
Out of the raised amount you can then chose to pay all or a part of your travel fees to Across the Divide. The balance of the raised amount goes to Massoud Library, into our bank account as indicated above.

This is a great way to experience new adventures and at the same time assist the building of our Libraries across Afghanistan.

Access Across the Divide’s website and sign up for their “Just Events” here.

Necessary professional staff will be recruited on either a volunteer or salary basis.
Every step of the project will be documented on this website and relevant documentary proof can be received in soft copy if desired.
Everybody residing in Afghanistan is welcome any time to contribute to and witness the project's progress in person.

If you wish to become a member and volunteer your time please e-mail this form to us or drop it off in person at our office as given in contact us.
Everybody is welcome to participate and contribute in any manner he or she is capable of. Please contact us with further questions and suggestions on how to improve our work.
