For records of the year 2009 / 2010 (1388) click here 19th November 2008 / 29th Aqrab 1387 Association application was finalized During a plenary session of all Association members at Kabul Weekly office today, the following was accomplished: The documents which apply for the registration of the Ahmad Shah Massoud Library and Culture Centre Association with the Ministry of Justice were signed by all 10 founding members. The documents will be submitted to the Ministry of Justice as soon as possible The following officer positions were assigned via majority vote each: Mr. Ahmad Zia Kechkenni President Mr. Hashmat Froz Vice President Mr. Farid Akbari, Mr. Zubair Amirir Treasurers Mr. Hazib Zahoori Administrator 17. November 2008 / 27th Aqrab 1387 Land to be given to the Ahmad Shah Massoud Library & Culture Centre Association The First Vice President of Afghanistan, H.E. Ahmad Zia Massoud, has supported the Association in acquiring land. As Acting President, His Excellency instructed the cabinet to approve the transfer the ownership of a to-be-demarcated parcel of land opposite the Aliabad Hospital in Shar-e-Now, Kabul. Located in the centre of Kabul, the parcel is adjacent to the historic Sharara Tower (Burch-e-Sharara) which is under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture: http://www.panoramio.com/photo/1227624. We are hopeful that the Minister will cooperate with us and grant us usage rights of this several storey high tower. This would allow us to incorporate the visually attractive structure into the compound of the Library & Culture Centre. With this location the Centre will be located along side a frequented road which allows for a shop-front at ground level pointing outward. Transfer of the land title will be carried out once the registration of the association is successful 21 August 2008 / 31st Assad 1387 20th August 2008 / 30th Assad 1387 The Steering Committee for the Ahmad Shah Massoud Library has had its Inaugural Meeting  After a lively discussion on various topics necessary to kick-start the project, the following major points were decided: 1.       The Centre is to be financed only out of non-interest income in line with one of Massoud’s strict principles. 2.       The Centre is to be run by an association which we will found as soon as the necessary steps have been established. 3.       This association is independent in its work but is open to collaboration with other organisations interested in the common purpose as and when deemed suitable. 4.       The website will be hosted asap under the domain name www.massoudlibrary.org but small changes will be brought to the site as per decisions reached during the meeting. 5.       All expenses incurred until such time that the first funds will be received will be born by the Committee members in equal parts. 6.       With regards to fund management these decisions were made: a. All necessary bank-related measures will be taken so as to ensure a safe and transparent donations process. b. A treasurer has been selected to coordinate all money related matters for the Centre c. The website will have to feature advanced payment tools for a transparent and reliable receipt of funds. 7.       A couple of leads regarding donations of a suitable land plot will be followed up. 8.       Fundraising: a list of suitable individuals and organisations is to be drawn up. Further steps will be decided thereafter.
